Modernization Gateway Updates that Help Improve Your Facility

It’s a new year with new goals, new hopes, new plans – for some people both at and outside of work. We can’t help with your personal resolutions, but if 2024 is your facility’s year for system upgrades, we’ve got some great news to start out the year.

ProSoft’s modernization solutions are designed to help you update legacy equipment on your schedule – anyone who has gone through a traditional rip-and-replace of older control systems knows that’s an expensive, time-consuming option, typically including downtime (that you can only hope isn’t for an extended period), PLC code re-creation, and some well-timed crossed fingers for luck (we kid…kind of).

ProSoft’s modernization gateways, though, can be set up during a short, planned downtime window, and can work in tandem with your existing system while you upgrade. This way production can continue while you get a new control system in place.

Newest gateways

This month, we’re excited to report that two of our previous gateways have updated versions. The AN-X3 modules for AutoMax and Modicon control systems allow you to upgrade to newer PACs.

· The AN-X3-AMX gateway features two modes to support your modernization: DCSNet supports AutoMax DCS migrations, while the RIO mode supports AutoMax Remote I/O migrations. The DCSNet mode exchanges data over Ethernet with an EtherNet/IP™ Originator, including a new Rockwell Automation® ControlLogix®. The RIO mode allows an EtherNet/IP Scheduled Originator or a ControlLogix to control your legacy AutoMax Remote I/O.

· The AN-X3-MOD gateway, meanwhile, enables modernization from legacy S908 networks to newer Schneider Electric M580/M340 controllers and Rockwell Automation’s EtherNet/IP-based PACs. The gateway automatically creates the S908 SCAN list, further easing installation.

Updated solution

Meanwhile, the newest update to the AN-X4 gateway – which helps users migrate from legacy Allen-Bradley® equipment to Rockwell Automation PACs – recently arrived.

The new Remote I/O Scanner firmware update allows you to replace legacy Allen-Bradley PLCs that use distributed Remote I/O racks with a current ControlLogix or CompactLogix™ PAC – without replacing the existing Remote I/O racks. (Note: If you previously purchased the module and would like this functionality for your application, the unit can be updated in the field so you can access this new mode.)
