Packaging OEM saves time via remote monitoring

Hassia-Redatron GmbH, a machine builder in Germany, was in a spot that many OEMs find themselves in: Commissioning and maintenance of their machines was necessary but very time-consuming.

The company specializes in machinery for flexible packaging, and it needed a more efficient way to get data from remote equipment. Hassia-Redatron needed to make the best use of their engineers’ time while still providing quality commissioning and maintenance services.

The company also sought a solution that wouldn’t be brand-specific: While they primarily use Schneider Electric® processors, on occasion their equipment features a Rockwell Automation® controller. Finding a solution that could work with each industrial automation giant was important.

With assistance from their distributor, NemaSystems Automation GmbH, Hassia-Redatron found wired and cellular remote connectivity solutions from ProSoft Technology that met their objectives.

They now have gateways at their remote locations, with plans to add 15 units per year. The gateways are accessed by Hassia-Redatron personnel via Belden Horizon™, a secure cloud-native program that lets them monitor and troubleshoot remote equipment from anywhere in the world.

“Now we are able to respond quickly if our customers need support or during the commissioning phase at the customer site,” said Anne Marie Jäger-Marchand, Key Account Sales and Internal Sales Manager at Hassia-Redatron. “This saves time for the support/maintenance engineers.”

She noted another benefit as well: No one – neither the OEM nor the end user – has to take care of a server, saving even more time.
